{"id":517,"date":"2026-10-06T11:32:28","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T11:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tangazadital.co.ke\/?p=517"},"modified":"2026-10-06T11:32:28","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T11:32:28","slug":"cbk-accepts-ksh8-96-billion-in-treasury-bond-switch-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tangazadital.co.ke\/?p=517","title":{"rendered":"CBK Accepts KSh8.96\u00a0Billion in Treasury\u00a0Bond Switch Auction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Central Bank\u00a0of Kenya (CBK) has accepted bids\u00a0worth\u00a0<strong>KSh8.96 billion<\/strong>\u00a0in a Treasury\u00a0bond switch auction\u00a0involving a 15-year government security.The auction, dated\u00a0<strong>October 7, 2026<\/strong>, involved the\u00a0<strong>FXD1\/2018\/015\u00a0Treasury bond<\/strong>, which has a\u00a0tenor of 15\u00a0years and approximately\u00a0<strong>6.6 years to\u00a0maturity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The bond is\u00a0due\u00a0on\u00a0<strong>May 9, 2033<\/strong>.According to the\u00a0CBK auction results, the government had\u00a0offered\u00a0<strong>KSh10 billion<\/strong>\u00a0worth of the\u00a0bond but received\u00a0total bids\u00a0amounting to\u00a0<strong>KSh9.08 billion<\/strong>, representing a\u00a0<strong>90.81 per cent\u00a0performance rate<\/strong>.Of the bids\u00a0received, CBK accepted\u00a0<strong>KSh8.96383 billion<\/strong>. Competitive bids accounted\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>KSh7.04125 billion<\/strong>, while\u00a0<strong>KSh1.92258 billion<\/strong>\u00a0came through non-competitive bids.The auction\u00a0recorded a\u00a0<strong>bid-to-cover\u00a0ratio of 1.01<\/strong>, indicating that the\u00a0amount of bids\u00a0received was only\u00a0marginally higher than\u00a0the amount on\u00a0offer.The\u00a0<strong>market-weighted average\u00a0rate<\/strong>\u00a0stood at\u00a0<strong>12.6126 per cent<\/strong>, while the weighted\u00a0average rate of\u00a0accepted bids was\u00a0slightly lower at\u00a0<strong>12.6112 per cent<\/strong>.The bond\u00a0was priced at\u00a0<strong>105.0721 per cent<\/strong>, against a\u00a0<strong>coupon rate of\u00a012.65 per cent<\/strong>.KSh8.78 billion switched\u00a0from existing bondsAs part of\u00a0the transaction, the\u00a0CBK said\u00a0<strong>KSh8.77915 billion<\/strong>\u00a0was switched from\u00a0the source bonds\u00a0into the new\u00a0destination\u00a0security.The source securities\u00a0were\u00a0<strong>FXD1\/2024\/003<\/strong>, with a Kenya\u00a0shilling face value\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>KSh6 billion<\/strong>,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>FXD2\/2013\/015<\/strong>, with a face\u00a0value of approximately\u00a0<strong>KSh4 billion<\/strong>.The switch allows\u00a0investors holding the\u00a0specified existing government\u00a0securities to exchange\u00a0them for the\u00a0new FXD1\/2018\/015 bond, helping\u00a0the government\u00a0manage its debt\u00a0portfolio and maturity\u00a0profile.The CBK also\u00a0indicated that details\u00a0of\u00a0<strong>upcoming Treasury bond\u00a0issues for October\u00a02026<\/strong>, including their tenors, amounts and\u00a0coupon rates, would\u00a0be provided in\u00a0the respective prospectuses\u00a0before the issue\u00a0dates.The auction results\u00a0were signed by\u00a0<strong>David Louisa, Director\u00a0of Financial Markets<\/strong>, and\u00a0dated\u00a0<strong>October 5, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"246\" height=\"195\" src=\"https:\/\/tangazadital.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/cbk.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-518\" style=\"width:355px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank\u00a0of Kenya (CBK) has accepted bids\u00a0worth\u00a0KSh8.96 billion\u00a0in a Treasury\u00a0bond switch auction\u00a0involving a 15-year government security.The auction, dated\u00a0October 7, 2026, involved the\u00a0FXD1\/2018\/015\u00a0Treasury bond, which has a\u00a0tenor of 15\u00a0years and approximately\u00a06.6 years to\u00a0maturity.
