{"id":664,"date":"2026-10-08T03:42:19","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T03:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tangazadital.co.ke\/?p=664"},"modified":"2026-10-08T03:44:50","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T03:44:50","slug":"nema-apprehends-five-as-nairobi-plastic-bag-crackdown-intensifies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tangazadital.co.ke\/?p=664","title":{"rendered":"Nema apprehends five as Nairobi plastic bag crackdown intensifies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Hadrine Joyce<\/strong><br><strong>October 8, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has apprehended five people following a raid on a facility in <strong>Njiru, Nairobi<\/strong>, where banned plastic carrier bags were allegedly being manufactured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NEMA said on Thursday that the operation was part of an intensified nationwide crackdown targeting the manufacture, distribution and use of banned plastic carrier and flat bags.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The environmental authority said its enforcement officers recovered <strong>90,695 banned single-use plastic bags<\/strong> during the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Five people, including the owner of the facility, were apprehended during the raid. They were later booked at <strong>South B Police Station<\/strong> before being released on cash bail pending arraignment at the <strong>Kibera Law Courts<\/strong>, according to NEMA.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kenya introduced a ban on plastic carrier bags in 2017 as part of efforts to reduce plastic pollution and protect the environment.
