Seven Ethiopian armed groups have announced an alliance aimed at challenging the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The alliance includes groups that were previously on opposing sides during Ethiopia’s 2020–2022 Tigray conflict. The groups say they are opposed to what they describe as excessive centralisation of power and regional marginalisation. The Ethiopian government has accused neighbouring Eritrea of supporting the alliance, while Eritrea has denied similar accusations.
