Kenya Reports No New Ebola Cases as Health Authorities Intensify Surveillance
Kenya has reported no new Ebola cases following the testing of 293 individuals, offering encouraging news after the country confirmed its first imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease earlier this month.
According to a report published by Reuters on Sunday, 11 October, the latest testing results indicate that no additional infections have been detected following the death of a Kenyan citizen who had travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The patient, who had reportedly been living in the DRC, travelled through Uganda before arriving in Nairobi. He subsequently tested positive for the virus and died on 5 October.
The case prompted the government to strengthen disease surveillance, investigate potential exposure and improve screening procedures at points of entry.

Kenya’s Ministry of Health has also been working to trace individuals who may have come into contact with the patient. Authorities have emphasised the importance of monitoring contacts and identifying suspected infections promptly.
The absence of additional cases is encouraging, but health officials must continue surveillance to reduce the risk of further transmission.
The situation also highlights the importance of regional cooperation, particularly between Kenya, Uganda and the DRC, in responding to infectious diseases that cross national borders.
