Government agencies have been directed to accelerate flood-prevention measures in Nairobi ahead of expected El Niño rains. The measures include clearing drainage systems, dredging waterways and inspecting electricity transmission lines.
Authorities have also identified safer areas for temporary relocation of residents living in vulnerable locations. The expected heavy rains could cause flooding, road damage and disruption of electricity services in some areas.
